Starting Monday, January 6, 2025, residents in several parts of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) will face prolonged power outages due to the relocation of critical electricity infrastructure.
The Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) announced the development on Friday, citing the need to move the 33KV DC Airport Feeder and the 132KV Kukwaba-Apo Transmission Line Towers along the Outer Southern Expressway.
In a statement shared via its official X handle, AEDC confirmed that the relocation process would span from January 6 to January 31, 2025.
“There will be power interruptions from January 6-31, 2025, as the Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) undertakes the relocation of these critical transmission lines,” the statement explained.
Affected areas include Lugbe, Airport Road, Kapwa, NNPC, Games Village, National Stadium, Eye Clinic, Indoor Complex, Christ Embassy Church, American International School, Spring Court, American Embassy Quarters, EFCC Headquarters, Coca Cola, Railway, FMC, and parts of Apo.
Other regions likely to experience outages are parts of Gudu, Gbazango, Kubwa, Bwari, Jahi, Jabi, Karu, Nyanya, Mararaba, Keffi, and other locations across Abuja.
“We sincerely apologise for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding during this period,” AEDC stated.
This announcement follows a recent planned maintenance exercise by the Transmission Company of Nigeria at the Gwagwalada 330/132/33kV Transmission Substation, which temporarily disrupted power supply in the FCT.
Despite ongoing efforts, residents in Abuja continue to report concerns over unreliable electricity service.
