Anambra Police Arrest 300 Suspects, Rescue 14 Kidnap Victims in 2024
The Anambra State Police Command arrested over 300 suspects and rescued 14 kidnapped victims, including three children stolen from Bauchi State, during 2024.
Speaking at a press briefing on Monday, Tochukwu Ikenga, spokesperson for the command, highlighted the milestones achieved, including securing 30 convictions and dismantling criminal networks.
“Last year witnessed successful local government elections. The command also launched security advocacy visits and established community policing committees to strengthen community engagement,” Ikenga said.
The stolen children, sold to another person in Anambra, were recovered after the foster mother and other suspects confessed to the crime.
Ikenga detailed the recovery of over 43 unexploded improvised devices and more than 100 arms, including AK-47s, pump-action guns, and locally made pistols.
Notable recoveries included 19 unexploded devices from a criminal camp in Nimo, Njikoka LGA.
The spokesperson also revealed the arrest of a notorious kidnapper, Pablo, who had been terrorizing Ihiala in Anambra, as well as parts of Enugu and Delta states. Two cultists in Awka were also apprehended, leading to the recovery of a pump-action gun, live cartridges, a cutlass, charms, and suspected hard drugs.
Stolen Vehicles and Ammunition
The police recovered about 40 stolen vehicles and over 2,937 rounds of ammunition of various types during the year.
Ikenga reiterated the command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents through collaborative efforts with communities and sustained crackdowns on criminal elements.
