On Monday, blogger Martins Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, appeared before a House of Representatives panel investigating allegations of bribery and corruption involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS). The blogger had accused both agencies of accepting bribes in a viral video.

The joint committee on Financial Crimes and Reformatory Institutions, responsible for probing the allegations, also summoned officials from the EFCC and NCoS to address the claims.

In the viral video, VeryDarkMan alleged that Idris Okuneye, better known as Bobrisky, paid ₦15 million to the EFCC to drop money laundering charges against him after his naira-spraying incident in April. Following the event, Bobrisky was sentenced to six months’ imprisonment, and the blogger further claimed that Bobrisky paid additional sums to secure preferential treatment in prison.

Both Bobrisky and the accused institutions have denied the allegations. The EFCC and the NCoS have launched internal investigations into the claims made by VeryDarkMan.

The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has called on Attorney General of the Federation, Lateef Fagbemi (SAN), and National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, to initiate an independent inquiry into the blogger’s allegations.
