BREAKING: Court sacks Elumelu from House of Reps, declares LP candidate winner
In a recent development, the Court of Appeal in Abuja made a significant decision on Thursday. They overturned the judgment handed down by the National and State House of Assembly Election Tribunal on July 24. This tribunal had previously declared Ndudi Elumelu of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as the victor in the Aniocha/Oshimili Federal Constituency election in Delta State.
The Court of Appeal, which convened in Asaba, Delta State, has now officially recognized Mr. Ngozi Okolie, the Labour Party candidate, as the duly elected representative. The court found fault with the tribunal’s decision to invalidate Okolie’s election. As a result, they dismissed the petition submitted by Elumelu before the trial tribunal, which had led to the invalidated judgment.
The Court agreed with counsel to the Labour Party, Mahmud Magaji, that contrary to the finding of the tribunal, Okolie was duly nominated and sponsored by his party and that he resigned his appointment as a Senior Special Assistant to Delta State Government as required by the Constitution.
