Chief of Defence Staff Rewards Troops with N1m for Eliminating Notorious Bandit Leader
The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has announced a cash reward of N1 million for the troops responsible for the recent successful operation in Zamfara State, which led to the elimination of notorious bandit leader, Halilu Sububu Buzu.
The operation is seen as a significant breakthrough in the ongoing fight against banditry and terrorism in the North West region.
General Musa commended the troops for their bravery and precision in carrying out the raid, which neutralized one of the most dangerous criminals in the region.
Buzu had been responsible for a series of violent attacks and kidnappings, spreading fear and instability across Zamfara and neighboring states.
The operation took place in the Mayanchi village, where troops from the Joint Task Force Northwest Operation Hadarin Daji (OPHD) staged a well-planned ambush based on intelligence about the movements of Buzu and his fighters.
The nighttime raid resulted in the elimination of numerous bandits, including Buzu, and the recovery of weapons and 30 motorcycles, often used by the insurgents to carry out their operations.
According to a counter-insurgency expert, the success of this operation marks a critical blow to the operational strength of the bandit group, reducing their ability to carry out future attacks.
The expert noted that such coordinated strikes are essential in dismantling organized criminal networks that have long plagued the region.
General Musa emphasized that the reward is intended to honor the troops’ dedication and encourage them to maintain the same level of excellence in future operations.
He reiterated the importance of the Nigerian military’s role in safeguarding the security of the North West and commended the ongoing efforts to restore peace and stability in the region.
This latest victory highlights the Nigerian military’s commitment to combating terrorism and banditry, while also demonstrating the effectiveness of intelligence-led operations in neutralizing threats to national security.
