Cost of living crisis: Tinubu orders immediate distribution of grains, palliatives to FCT residents
President Bola Tinubu has directed an immediate release and distribution of a fresh round of grains and palliatives to residents of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to cushion the effect of the high cost of living due to fuel subsidy removal.
This was disclosed by the Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, on Wednesday, March 6, during an emergency meeting with stakeholders and Chairman of the 6 area councils of the FCT.
This is coming barely few days after some FCT residents attacked a warehouse in the Gwagwa-Tasha area of Abuja, belonging to the Agriculture and Rural Development Secretariat of the FCT Administration, looting food items and vandalizing the building.
Mahmoud stated that the emergency meeting was to arrange some committees for transparency in the distribution of the palliatives.
She said the directive came in a letter from the Presidency, through the National Emergency Management Authority (NEMA) to the FCT minister, while also announcing the setup of a committee to carry out the directive within the next two weeks.
Mahmoud said,
Mahmoud also registered her misgivings against the chairmen of the 6 area councils of the FCT, for coming late to the meeting, as well as poor representation.
