Discharged Female Soldier Demands Army Releases Investigation Report

Ruth Ogunleye, a former Nigerian soldier, is urging the Nigerian Army to publicly release the findings of the investigation that led to her discharge from service.

The call for transparency comes after Ogunleye’s high-profile allegations of sexual harassment, intimidation, and threats against three senior officers, including Colonel Ishiaku Abdulkareem.

In January, Ogunleye took to social media to accuse Abdulkareem of making unwanted sexual advances, which she claimed she rejected. According to Ogunleye, this rejection led to a campaign of retaliation, including threats to her career, the denial of promotion courses, and even an eviction from her apartment.

Ogunleye also alleged that Abdulkareem used his influence to have her detained in a psychiatric facility, telling senior officers she was mentally unstable whenever she tried to escalate the matter.

Despite these serious accusations, a statement from Army spokesperson Onyema Nwachukwu, issued on September 24, revealed that Abdulkareem had been cleared of all charges. Nwachukwu further announced that Ogunleye had been discharged from the Army, citing her deteriorating mental health as a factor in the decision.

Ogunleye has since responded through a TikTok video, questioning the Army’s handling of her case and demanding that the same level of attention given to her discharge be applied to making the investigation’s findings public.

“I humbly request that the Nigerian Army publish the outcome of the investigation that led to my discharge,” she stated. “I beg the Nigerian Army to post the outcome of the investigation on its social media platforms so that the whole world will know what truly transpired.”

Her appeal underscores the need for accountability and transparency in the military’s internal processes, especially in cases involving allegations of misconduct against senior officers.

As Ogunleye awaits a response to her request, the public remains keenly interested in whether the Nigerian Army will heed her call for full disclosure.
