Ebonyi 2027: Umahi Throws Weight Behind Nwifuru’s Second Term Bid

Former Ebonyi State Governor and current Minister of Works, Senator David Umahi, has thrown his weight behind Governor Francis Nwifuru’s bid for a second term in 2027.

The endorsement came during a heartfelt gathering on the 27th of December, 2024, when members of the Izzi National Youth Forum paid Umahi a Christmas homage at his Umunagu Uburu country home in Ohaozara Local Government Area.

The Minister commended the Izzi youths, led by their National President, Barrister Andrew Chibueze Elom, for their thoughtful surprise visit during the festive season.

Reflecting on the governor’s leadership, Umahi confidently declared that Nwifuru would complete an “uninterrupted 8 years” as the state’s leader, following the precedent set by previous governors.

“Thank you for this surprise visit,” Umahi remarked. “Sincerely, no doubt I expected this visit but not in this magnitude. Not to talk about the fact that you left your son (Governor Francis Nwifuru) to pay me a visit today, when you should be at his house celebrating with him. Even if, God forbid, your brothers or Izzi people stand against me tomorrow, the covenant I had with him (Governor Nwifuru) and God is complete uninterrupted 8 years, and nothing would stop this.”

Expressing his unwavering support, Umahi added: “Relax. I fought principalities and powers alone and won; and you think I can’t do it now that I have someone by my side? I have been saying it and will keep saying it – I have not seen any better option in Izzi till now. Sorry to say this, but he (Governor Nwifuru) is humble, and till the end of 8 years, I am not leaving him. Not now.”

Earlier, Barrister Elom, speaking on behalf of the Izzi youths, expressed gratitude to Umahi for honoring his promise of transferring the state’s governorship to an Izzi native.

He appealed to Umahi to remain a guiding force for Governor Nwifuru throughout his administration.

“Your Excellency, the performing Minister of Works, we are here to thank you for promising to hand over to an Izzi man and fulfilling the same,” Elom said. “We equally came to plead with you not to leave this project you have started halfway. Stand with your son, encourage him, guide him, so he does not go astray.”
