Federal Government Launches Cargo Rail Services Between Lagos and Ibadan
The Apapa-Ibadan cargo rail in Lagos has officially begun its freight services, with the Federal Government overseeing the inauguration. The Minister for Transportation, Saidu Alkali, marked the occasion by initiating the first cargo transport along the Lagos-Ibadan rail corridor.
The minister commenced the journey at the Ebute Meta station, later proceeding to Apapa for the official launch, and finally, reaching Ibadan via the 157 km rail corridor.
For the inaugural freight movement, three coaches carrying 30 wagons were loaded. The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has announced its plan to start with three coaches per day, with the commitment to increase this capacity as time progresses.
