Chaos erupted at the Gani Fawehinmi Park in Ojota, Lagos, on Sunday morning as hoodlums disrupted a protest against bad governance.

According to Channels Television report, the protesters had gathered as part of the ongoing nationwide demonstrations demanding an end to hunger and economic hardship.

At around 10:30 am, a major disagreement emerged among the protest organizers.

A lawyer, who identified himself only as JP, urged the protesters to leave the grounds, citing President Bola Tinubu’s recent address to the nation as a reason to disperse.

However, another group, led by 70-year-old Adegboyega Adeniji of Peace Action Transformation, insisted on continuing the protest until further notice.

The police intervened, attempting to persuade the small group of protesters to leave. Despite their efforts, a group that the protesters claimed was sponsored arrived from the other side of the road and began to disperse them.

By 11:30 am, the hoodlums returned and forcefully chased the remaining protesters away from Ojota. The police have since taken control of the protest grounds.

Before being dispersed, the protesters chanted solidarity songs in defiance, shortly after President Tinubu’s national address. The protesters criticized the President for failing to address the core issues they had raised, despite his claims of efforts by his administration.

Earlier in the morning, security agents had prevented the protesters from holding a procession beyond the designated area at Gani Fawehinmi Park. The protesters complied and returned to the specified location without argument.

The nationwide protests, which have now entered their fourth day, have seen repeated clashes between demonstrators and police. From the first to the third day, police used tear gas to disperse protesters, actions that have been widely condemned by civil society organizations.

The demonstrations continue to highlight the growing discontent among Nigerians over the country’s economic situation and the perceived failure of the government to address these pressing issues.
