Jigawa Gov Loses Son in Accident 24 Hours After Mother’s Death
Tragedy has struck the family of Jigawa State Governor Umar Namadi for the second time in 24 hours as the governor’s eldest son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi, passed away in a motor accident on Thursday, December 26, 2024.
This incident occurred barely 24 hours after the governor announced the death of his mother, Maryam Namadi, who died on Wednesday following a brief illness.
Reports indicate that Abdulwahab, aged 24, was involved in a ghastly car accident along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road. The accident happened as he was traveling with friends from Kafin Hausa to Dutse.
The vehicle reportedly lost control and somersaulted, leaving some of the passengers injured. They are currently receiving treatment at the Dutse General Hospital.
In a statement released by Hamisu Gumel, the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, the bereaved family confirmed the incident.
“With a heavy heart, Governor Umar Namadi announces the passing of his beloved son, Abdulwahab Umar Namadi.
“The 24-year-old departed this world on Thursday, December 26, 2024, due to a ghastly motor accident along the Dutse-Kafin-Hausa Road.”
The statement further revealed that Abdulwahab was laid to rest in Kafin Hausa town on Thursday, in accordance with Islamic traditions.
He is survived by his parents, Governor Umar Namadi and his wife, as well as numerous siblings.
“This tragic incident comes just a day after the governor mourned the passing of his mother, Hajia Maryam Namadi,” the statement added.
The double loss has sent shockwaves throughout Jigawa State, with residents and political leaders expressing condolences to the governor and his family.
Many have described the events as a heartbreaking period for the state’s first family.
Funeral rites for Abdulwahab were attended by a large crowd, including dignitaries, friends, and well-wishers, who gathered to console the family and pray for the departed.
Messages of support have poured in from across Nigeria, with citizens and political figures calling for strength and unity for the family during this difficult time.
Governor Namadi, who is mourning both his mother and son, has asked for prayers from the public as the family navigates this moment of profound loss.
