Kano Assembly Suspends Gwale LG Chairman for 3 Months Over Land Sale Allegations
The Kano State House of Assembly has taken action by suspending Khalid Ishaq Diso, who serves as the Chairman of Gwale Local Government Council, for a duration of three months. This decision was made after the Assembly’s Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs reviewed a report during a plenary session held on Tuesday.
The main accusations against the chairman center on his unauthorized sale of government-owned lands.
The Assembly took this action in response to a petition submitted by six council councillors out of a total of ten, who raised concerns about the chairman’s conduct. Among the accusations, it was revealed that the chairman had been making unilateral decisions without the inclusion of the council members.
Jubril Ismail Falgore, the Speaker of the State Assembly, who disclosed the gravity of the situation and outlined the steps taken.
According to him, an ad hoc committee was formed to thoroughly investigate the allegations, with a mandate to report its findings within two months. In the interim, the Vice-Chairman of the Gwale Local Government Council has been directed to assume leadership responsibilities for the next three months, pending the completion of the investigation.
