Kano Police Arrest 392 Suspected Looters During Nationwide Protest

The Kano State police command announced the arrest of 392 individuals suspected of looting the NCC Industrial Park and other locations during the nationwide hunger and hardship protests on Thursday.

The arrests include suspects connected to the looting of the Kano High Court and various sites across the state.

In a briefing on Friday, police spokesman Abdullahi Kiyawa revealed that the suspects were apprehended with a substantial amount of stolen items.

“The suspects were arrested with a large number of exhibits on them,” Kiyawa stated.

The newly built NCC Industrial Park, slated for commissioning next week, was reportedly looted and set ablaze by hoodlums amid the unrest. Eyewitnesses described chaotic scenes at the ICT centre, where protesters were seen removing desktop computers, chairs, keyboards, and other valuable equipment before igniting a fire.

In response to the violence, Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf declared a 24-hour curfew across the state on Thursday.

“We are deeply concerned by the turn of events and are taking all necessary measures to restore order. I urge all residents to remain indoors as security agencies work to enforce the curfew,” Governor Yusuf said.

The imposition of the curfew aims to curb further violence and restore calm in the state following the day’s tumultuous events.
