Nigeria Customs Service Announces Recruitment of 3,927 New Officers
The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has unveiled plans to recruit 3,927 new officers to bolster its operations in trade facilitation and border security.
The announcement was made following the 61st quarterly meeting of the NCS Board, presided over by the Minister of Finance, Mr. Olawale Edun, in Abuja.
The recruitment initiative aims to provide young Nigerians with opportunities to join the NCS and contribute to its vital role in economic growth and national development.
Although the exact timeline for the recruitment process has not been disclosed, the NCS emphasized that the new officers will play a crucial part in strengthening the agency’s capacity to meet its mission.
At the meeting, the NCS also highlighted its outstanding performance in 2024, having generated over ₦5 trillion in revenue by November, significantly contributing to the government’s revenue target.
This success is expected to support the government’s ambitious ₦35 trillion revenue goal for 2025.
The NCS’s remarkable revenue generation has been largely attributed to reforms implemented under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which have significantly improved the agency’s performance in combating smuggling and facilitating trade.
Minister Edun praised the NCS for its key role in Nigeria’s economic recovery, stating, “The NCS has excelled in suppressing smuggling and fostering trade, which are essential for growth and job creation.” The recruitment drive aligns with the government’s larger economic targets, including a ₦48 trillion expenditure goal for 2025.
This move comes as part of ongoing efforts to enhance Nigeria’s economic landscape and create more employment opportunities for its youth.
