Obi Meets Farotimi, Hails Activist’s Courage Amid Legal Troubles
Kehinde Fajobi
Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has lauded lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi for his resilience and courage following his release from a correctional facility in Ekiti State.
In a tweet on Friday, Obi revealed he had recently visited Farotimi, who was detained over allegations of defamation and cyberbullying brought by Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Aare Afe Babalola.
The allegations stemmed from claims in Farotimi’s book, Nigeria and Its Criminal Justice System.
“Since his return from the correctional center in Ekiti, I have not had the opportunity to meet with him. I was pleased to find him in good spirits and deeply encouraged by his unwavering dedication to the struggle for a better Nigeria.
“Dele Farotimi exemplifies courage in the face of adversity, consistently taking bold stands for good governance in our nation,” Obi stated.
The former governor expressed hope for a fruitful year ahead as they pursued shared goals for national development.
Farotimi, who was arrested on December 3 by the Ekiti State Police Command, has since been released but remains at the center of the defamation case initiated by Babalola.
