An auto crash involving a pilot vehicle from the convoy of Benue State Governor Hyacinth Alia has reportedly claimed one life and injured another in Vandeikya Local Government Area (LGA).
The accident occurred in Ihugh, an ancient town in Vandeikya, as the governor, who hails from the area, travelled home for Christmas.
According to local sources, the crash happened when the driver of the pilot vehicle lost visibility due to dust on the road and veered off, colliding with a motorcycle.
“The driver ran into the motorbike rider, and one of the passengers on the bike lost his life while another sustained injuries.
“It was the dusty nature of the road that created the problem, especially when you have more than one car on the road at the same time,” a source explained.
Chief Solomon Iorpev, the Technical Adviser to the Governor on Media, Publicity, and Strategic Communication, confirmed the involvement of the governor’s pilot vehicle but clarified that it was not part of the governor’s convoy during the incident, according to Vanguard.
“The vehicle was alone on a mission when it got involved in an accident, and this was caused by the dust on the road,” Iorpev stated.
“The road was very dusty, and there was an oncoming vehicle in the opposite direction. While the driver tried to avoid it, the car rammed into a motorcycle, causing the accident.”
The Police Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Catherine Anene, said the command had not yet received a report on the incident.
