PDP Chieftain Criticizes Tinubu’s Bloated 48-Member Cabinet

Otunba Segun Sowunmi, a prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has expressed strong criticism towards President Bola Tinubu’s decision to appoint 48 ministers to his cabinet, deeming it an unjustifiable depletion of public resources.

Sowunmi articulated these sentiments during a press briefing held on Tuesday within the confines of Abuja. He voiced his conviction that Nigeria confronts far weightier challenges than the mere expansion of governmental ministries and the corresponding appointment of additional ministers.

In Sowunmi’s view, the nation’s paramount concerns, without any specific hierarchy, encompass issues such as upholding accountability and justice, securing the stability of the national currency, ensuring comprehensive security measures, fostering national unity, fortifying the economy to generate employment opportunities, and undertaking a comprehensive overhaul of the populace’s national mindset.

He adviced the government to strive hard to end the hardship being faced by Nigerians following the removal of subsidy on petrol.

Showunmi also faulted the modalities for the distribution of fuel subsidy palliatives in the states, saying that the N5billion palliatives being challenged through the state governors might not achieve the desired objective.

He also tasked the government to take urgent steps to stop further depreciation in naira value, saying that all the measures introduced by the Central Bank of Nigeria had not yielded result.
