Rivers LG Elections: Action Alliance Wins in Etche
Port Harcourt, Rivers State — In a significant political shift, Uzodinma Nwafor of the Action Alliance (AA) has been declared the winner of the Etche Local Government Area (LGA) Chairman election, which took place on October 5, 2024.
The announcement was made by the Chairman of the Rivers State Independent National Electoral Commission (RSIEC), Adolphus Enebeli, on Sunday.
Nwafor’s victory signals a growing foothold for the AA in a region historically dominated by the more established political parties.
The result not only saw Nwafor secure the chairmanship, but the AA also swept all 19 available councillorship seats in the Etche LGA, a feat that has raised eyebrows in Rivers State’s political landscape.
The election, held amidst heightened expectations, showcased the Action Alliance’s successful grassroots mobilization and strategic focus on local governance issues, which seem to have resonated strongly with the people of Etche.
This clean sweep marks a turning point for the party, which has often been viewed as a marginal player in the state’s politics.
With this outcome, analysts are now speculating about the AA’s potential impact in upcoming elections, particularly in other LGAs across Rivers State.
The party’s victory in Etche may set a precedent for further political gains, challenging the dominance of the more prominent parties in the state.
More details are expected to emerge in the coming days, as the AA and other political actors reflect on the implications of this win for the broader political scene in Rivers State.
