Anambra State Governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, has married off his first daughter, Ifeatu Adaora Soludo, in a traditional ceremony to Mr. Arinze Ibekwe, an indigene of Odoje village in Onitsha North Local Government Area.

The event took place on Saturday at the governor’s hometown in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area, and was graced by numerous dignitaries, government officials, and traditional rulers.

Governor Soludo, who shared the joyous occasion on his verified Facebook page, noted the significance of the event, marking it as the first traditional marriage in his family in 142 years.

This rarity, he explained, was due to the scarcity of female children in the Soludo family, a “jinx” that he broke by being blessed with four daughters.

“In the presence of my family, kinsmen, friends, and my in-laws from Onitsha, I gave out my lovely daughter, Ifeatu Adaora Soludo, to her heartthrob after all traditional rites had been met and certified in line with the customs of the Isuofia community,” Soludo wrote.

Reflecting on the historic nature of the occasion, Soludo added, “I celebrate this historic event for two reasons. First, God has graciously blessed the larger Soludo family with another such marital union after 142 years (by my estimate). This is largely due to the fact that female children have been a rarity in the past three generations of the Soludo family. To break that ‘jinx,’ God has mercifully provided me with four beautiful daughters, whom I celebrate every day.”

He also expressed his joy at gaining a son through this union and offered his blessings to the newlyweds, wishing them a fruitful marriage. Soludo urged the couple to respect all traditional and Christian matrimonial rites to build a happy family that would sustain the Soludo legacy.

In a brief statement to the press, Oseloka Oranusi, the spokesperson for Arinze Ibekwe’s family, assured Governor Soludo and his wife, Nonye, that their daughter would be well cared for.

The ceremony was attended by a host of prominent figures, including Abia State Governor, Alex Otti, Senator Andy Ubah, and House of Representatives member for Ihiala Federal Constituency, Pascal Agbodike.

Other notable attendees included former House of Representatives member for Orumba North and South, Hon. Okwudili Ezenwankwo, Anambra State Speaker, Somtochukwu Udeze, and several state commissioners and officials.

The event marked a significant and joyous occasion for the Soludo family, celebrating not just a union but a historical moment in the family’s lineage.
