‘Support Tinubu’s govt’ – Speaker Abbas tells Atiku, Obi after tribunal judgement
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Tajudeen Abbas, has called upon Atiku Abubakar and Peter Obi to throw their support behind President Bola Tinubu’s administration, as it strives to steer Nigeria towards growth and development.
Abbas made this appeal in response to the court’s decision regarding the 2023 presidential election, which affirmed Tinubu’s victory at the polls.
In extending his congratulations to Tinubu for his triumph in the tribunal, Speaker Abbas emphasized that the dismissal of petitions against the president has only bolstered the legitimacy and credibility of his government and leadership.
The Speaker acknowledged that the petitioners exercised their rights by approaching the tribunal to voice their concerns, and he highlighted the court’s meticulous consideration of the arguments and evidence presented before delivering the judgment.
Furthermore, Speaker Abbas expressed his appreciation for the judiciary’s crucial role in upholding democracy in Nigeria, underscoring how the tribunal’s ruling has reinforced democratic processes within the country.
He said the judgment has vindicated the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), which duly declared Tinubu the winner of the presidential poll based on the votes the president received from Nigerians.
The Speaker urged presisent’s opponents in the presidential election as well as all Nigerians across political, religious and ethnic lines to support the Tinubu administration towards achieving a safe and prosperous country for all.
ThePressNG recalls that Atiku (PDP) and Obi (Labour Party) contested against Tinubu (APC) during the 2023 president election.
The tribunal, on Wednesday, trashed cases by the duo against President Tinubu for lack of merit.
