Over 35 Muslims journeying to Samunaka in Kaduna State to honour Maulud met their untimely end when their J5 bus collided head-on with a massive truck near Samunaka, in Lere Local Government Area.

The horrific accident disrupted their Maulud celebrations and left many in mourning.

Malam Abdullahi, one of the event organizers, spoke to journalists, revealing that the catastrophe had thrown their plans into chaos.

He reported that 35 survivors were transported to a medical facility in Plateau State for urgent treatment. Another vehicle in their convoy also collided with a motorbike, causing additional fatalities and injuries.

“I counted about 70 individuals, including women and children. This was a devastating blow. We have taken the injured to JUTH in Jos for medical care,” he recounted solemnly.

In a separate incident, the Zamfara State Government has confirmed that a boat tragedy in the Gummi Local Government Area claimed 40 lives.

The boat capsized in the Bakin Kasuwa River in the Uban Dawaki community on Sunday.

Sulaiman Idris, the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Media and Publicity, conveyed the governor’s description of the incident as a monumental disaster.

“The governor has instructed the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) to undertake immediate rescue and recovery operations. The agency has been tasked with assessing the disaster’s impact and providing urgent support,” Idris stated.

Additionally, the governor has called for immediate relief efforts for the victims’ families and expressed his condolences, pledging the state government’s commitment to preventing such tragedies in the future.

This follows a recent flood disaster that had already ravaged over 2000 homes and extensive farmland in the same council.
