Wike Slams Secondus, Calls Him Fubara’s Real Enemy
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday, lashed out at Uche Secondus, the former National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), accusing him of being the true enemy of Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara.
Speaking at the Ahoada East and Ahoada West PDP End of Year Thanksgiving in Rivers State, Wike dismissed Secondus’s comments calling him an enemy of Fubara.
According to Wike, it was Secondus who actively opposed Fubara’s candidacy in 2023 and pushed for his cousin, Tele Ikuru, to become governor instead.
Wike reflected on his role in removing Secondus from his position as PDP National Chairman, claiming it was due to Secondus’s resistance to Fubara’s leadership.
He stated, “I kicked out Secondus as PDP National Chairman when he wanted to make his cousin, Tele Ikuru, governor. Today, he is saying we are enemies.”
Secondus, who recently visited Rivers State as a guest of Fubara during a road project inauguration, had encouraged the governor to stand firm against his political adversaries, assuring him that God and key leaders would help him succeed.
However, Wike strongly rejected this, labeling Secondus as the real adversary of the governor.
Wike also took aim at Celestine Omehia, a former Rivers State governor, who had criticized his tenure.
Wike called Omehia an “imbecile” for questioning his contributions to the state, pointing out that during his time as Minister of Education, he had brought significant educational developments to Rivers, including grants for local universities and the renovation of key institutions.
Despite now serving as FCT Minister, Wike emphasized his continued efforts to support Rivers people, including securing numerous political appointments for the state under President Bola Tinubu’s administration. “There is no governor in this state who has attracted more political appointments to this state than myself,” Wike proudly declared.
Wike also praised Chibudum Nwuche, the chief host of the thanksgiving and a former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, for his political steadfastness and leadership.
He expressed pride in his ties to Ekpeye Kingdom, noting that his wife hails from the region and his daughter now serves as a Justice of the Court of Appeal.
In his speech, Nwuche thanked President Tinubu for appointing Wike as the FCT Minister and lauded Wike’s transformative work in Rivers State and Abuja, calling him a leader who delivered tangible results.
The event was attended by various political figures, including former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu and several members of the House of Representatives.
As tensions simmer within the PDP ranks, Wike’s remarks have added fuel to the ongoing political battles in Rivers State.
